Welcome to the Understanding God’s Great Salvation Podcast. This is episode #89.
I am your host, Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International. This podcast is designed to explain what it means to be saved from sin and from the punishment of sin through Jesus Christ. This podcast is primarily for non-believers and some new believers and it will help you understand what it means to be saved from hell and have a home in Heaven as well as the blessings of the abundant Christian life.
God made salvation simple. However, down through the years many people, including some preachers and other Christians, have made the matter of salvation complicated and confusing. I know from my own experience that many people would get saved if someone would sit down and share with them straightforwardly from the Bible what it really means to accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour. That is what I intend to do with this podcast.
Let’s start out with the Word of God. The Bible says in Romans 5:1: “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
Today’s God’s Great Salvation quote is from Carlo Borromeo. He said: “Behold Jesus Christ crucified, Who is the only foundation of our hope; He is our Mediator and Advocate; the victim and sacrifice for our sins. He is goodness and patience itself; His mercy is moved by the tears of sinners, and He never refuses pardon and grace to those who ask it with a truly contrite and humbled heart.”
Our topic today is “So Great Salvation” (Part 2) from the book, “Salvation Crystal Clear” (Book 1) by Curtis Hutson.
“So great salvation.” It is great because it includes deliverance from the reign of sin and peace with God; but it is great, too, because
3. It Includes Deliverance From the Penalty of Sin
That is the main thing, “The wages of sin is death” (Rom. 6:23). Ezekiel 18:4 states, “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” God said to Adam in Genesis 2:17, “For in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
There is a penalty for sin, and you can’t get around it. The sinner owes a penalty, and God does not sacrifice His justice on the altar of His love. The penalty has to be paid for the sinner to go to Heaven. The penalty is Hell—the second death, the lake of fire. If I go on without salvation, without trusting Jesus as Saviour, then I must pay the penalty I owe. And the only way I can pay what I owe as a sinner is to die, go into Hell and stay there forever and ever and ever—paying on it but never getting it paid.
John 3:36 warns, “He that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” It stays there. Ten million years—and the wrath of God is still abiding. When the sinner has been in Hell a billion years, the wrath of God will still be abiding on him; he will still be suffering the torments of Hell, which are the penalty of sin.
But wait a minute. Two thousand years ago Jesus came to earth. He lived a sinless life. He went to the cross. God put our sin upon HIm, and He died in our place to pay the penalty we owe. When we trust Jesus Christ as Saviour, the sentence is lifted and we are saved from the penalty of sin. John 3:18 states, “He that believeth on him is not condemned.” The sentence has been lifted! The believing sinner is no longer under sentence; he is not condemned.
Romans 8:33 asks, “Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.” God is the One who justifies, and no one can lay anything to our charge. The sentence is gone, and we will never again be under the penalty of sin.
We read in Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now [n-o-w, not after awhile] no condemnation [no judgment] to them which are in Christ Jesus.” It doesn’t say, “There is no condemnation to those which are in the baptistry, or to those which are in the church, or to those which are in the 4-H Club.” But, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.”
The person who is trusting Christ as Saviour is in a safe place. He is in Jesus Christ. Salvation is great because it includes being saved from the penalty of sin. No Hell for the believer. Jesus took his Hell 2,000 years ago.
But wait a minute. It is also great because
4. It Includes Having Your Own Attorney
I have often wondered how it would feel to have your own attorney. We had several attorneys in our church, but they were not as good as the One I am talking about. The One I speak of has never lost a case. When you trust Jesus Christ as Saviour, you get your own Lawyer.
The Bible says in I John 2:1, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate”—an Attorney, a Counselor, One who pleads our case with God—our own private Attorney. He knows when I am in trouble before I do, and He pleads my case. Isn’t that wonderful! He is my Advocate in Heaven.

As we close today, let me leave you with these words from Hebrews 2:3: “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation…” I encourage you to not neglect the salvation and grace offered by God. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins and take the punishment that we deserve upon Himself. Romans 5:8 says that “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, and you want to get to know Him today, here is how.
Please believe “that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” and you will be saved. The Bible states in the book of Romans 10:9, 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Pray and ask Him to come into your heart and He will. It’s just that simple.
